“Hope does not disappoint.” (Romans 5:5)
With these words of St. Paul, the Church invites us to become “pilgrims of hope” during the Holy Year 2025, a time to rediscover the hope we have in Jesus Christ and to renew our relationship with God and one another.
What Is a Jubilee Year?
A Jubilee Year is a sacred time of forgiveness, renewal, and conversion. In Scripture, the Jubilee was marked by the remission of debts, the restoration of relationships, and the renewal of creation (cf. Leviticus 25:8–55).
The first Christian Jubilee was proclaimed in 1300 by Pope Boniface VIII, and it has continued every 25 years as a special time of grace. The most recent extraordinary Jubilee was the Year of Mercy (2015) declared by Pope Francis.
During a Jubilee, the Church calls us to deeper prayer, repentance, and faith, offering indulgences as a sign of God’s mercy and healing. Traditionally, passing through a Holy Door symbolizes a step into renewed life in Christ. (This year, the Holy Doors are located in Rome.)
Parish Jubilee of Hope Events
As we join the universal Church in celebrating this Jubilee of Hope, our parish is offering several opportunities to live out this pilgrimage of faith:
- October 21: Lecture on Indulgences (English)
- October 22: Lecture on Indulgences (Spanish)
- November 1–8: Opportunity for Cemetery Indulgence
- November 3–4: Parish 24-Hour Eucharistic Adoration
- November 14: Parish Pilgrimage & Bus Trip to the Cathedral of St. Joseph
Let us walk together in faith and joy as pilgrims of hope, trusting that God’s mercy never fails.
St. Benedict, pray for us!
